Option to change from mobile to normal layout
Started By
I am a player who gets on Ala through a mobile device. I can say that I am very upset with the recent layout changes. There have been NO updates what-so-ever about these layout changes, and I feel not a lot of testing was put into the layouts (the old one with the glitch, and something I'll mention later).
Many sites with a mobile layout option allows players to revert players to the main layout. Ala does not. Even if I remove the /mobile/ in the URL bar, I am redirected in to the mobile site. This is frustrating because I cannot do ANYTHING on the layout - chat posts, deleting messages, etc will give me an error saying I have the wrong login information even though I'm logged in - and I cannot log out (mainly I'm logged on my side on my phone and want to get on my main, but with this I can't).
What am I trying to say ? Give mobile users the option to revert to the old site layout. It'll make it more user friendly and surely more people will be able to come on their mobile devices. Otherwise I have to say, I wont be logging on Ala on my phone anymore.

Remember I wasn't directing anything at anyone Dwarf =). I've seen other players have issues with the normal site on their phones. But yeah, I agree that an announcement would have been nice.

@hyper - trails were announced some time before they took them offline ^^; This can't be compared to that imo.

@rav - I was working with the site on mobile just fine and wasn't really bothered by it being just the full site :3 I'm just saying an announcement would've been nice so i could've trained my dogs in the morning more.

I agree there should have been some type of announcement or warning that the mobile version was going up so that everyone knew what was going on.

However,

I am having a hard time understanding players on here right now. People the past complained over and over that they can't do stuff on their mobile or tablets when Alacrity wasn't even a mobile site. The internet is still new on smartphones with those and tablets just now bursting in number and usage. Tons of websites don't have a special mobile version yet. I just got my own smartphone and there are a lot of limitations if you choose to go online with a smartphone or tablet. That's just how it is. The online world is still adjusting and phones are slowly turning into mini computers. But if you use a phone, you are limited. So I never got the frustration over Alacrity on the phone. You are on a PHONE (this excludes tablets. Those are new in general).

Alacrity has listened to these complaints about going on the site with a phone/tablet. This mobile version is being added for all of us, the players! While it was rather sudden and there wasn't too much information given to us before it was added, I'm thankful that its being added even though I won't be using it much personally. So guys, if there are bugs, report them! If you can't reach the issue hub on your phone, wait until you're at a computer. It's great the site listened and this is being added. Because really, this provides nothing to game play. It is simply for the players because it is something that has been brought up time and time again and many people expressed positive opinions towards getting a mobile version.

There will be bugs, yes. But you can't fix the bugs until you know what they are. That's why its important players submit issues. People log on from a variety of devices so its very good to get feedback for the wide array of devices. The more feedback, the better the mobile version will be.

Once the mobile version is done, I'd be for the option of using the regular website. It almost seems like a given that this would be added. I remember trying to go on ebay on the mobile version and couldn't get to where I wanted so I had switch to the classic layout. Sometimes its easier or more helpful to go by the route you're used to. So I support. I don't think it'd be difficult to add, and why not? =)

But if you guys really want a mobile version to work, complaining about what's not working or what you can't do won't help. Submitting to the issue hub will. It's your chance to really contribute to the development of a feature =). I'm excited that this is being added ^^

[Issue Hub] and any issues regarding the mobile version should go into the bug hub =)

*please note this isn't directed at anyone in particular =)

The same thing could be said for trials, though. You wish they would have coded them beforehand so we don't have to wait. They probably wanted to test it out before digging deeper into the bugs. This way, users can report what is wrong and they can fix it. And I don't mean to be rude, but honestly, you can live without Ala for a few days. They're just trying to improve the site, even if takes a little while to get done ^^

DD is right, my main complaint is that it was implemented before it was finished. Because of that, we should have received the option to switch between the two layouts.

It's extremely bothersome that these changes were just made without anybody making any announcement about it. I access alacrity while i'm working (I deliver mail and thus work outside) and i have no access to my computer. Now, i can't train my dogs while i'm away and thus i can barely finish all my TS per day. The site shouldn't have been implemented in this bug stage imo, you can't do anything now while it worked 'fine' before.

i understand there are tweaks being made and tests needed to be conducted but a warning would've been nice, especially for those users who depend on the mobile phones to access the site.

This is NOT a permanent layout plan. If you want to know how I know this, please feel free to check out the conversation I had in the issue hub, located here.

I too was disappointed when I logged on via mobile device, but that was until I asked about it on the issue hub. Instead of us jumping to conclusions maybe we should do a little bit of asking around guys. The issue hub is there for a reason (:

Right now the coders (as I understand) are extremely busy with other issues. With this being said it is wonderful that they are taking the time to make Alacrity mobile friendly. Layouts don't come together over night so we just need to give them some time to work out the kinks. I'm sure when all is said & done the layout will be worth the wait.
Just to throw in my two cents; the mobile layout is new. I'm sure there are bugs the coders have to iron out still. Perhaps one is the option to revert to the normal site. And if not, they'll eventually fix all the bugs with the mobile version. Just give it a little time. Admins have plenty on their plate, but I'm sure fixing the bugs is high on their list, since they just released the mobile version.
